Azeri national jailed in New York for faking marriage to become US citizen
A New York district court on Thursday announced the sentence of a 27-year-old Azerbaijani citizen for five-and-a-half months amid making a false statement on an immigration document.
He has been residing in the city of Buffalo during the past few years, tried to become a US citizen through a "false marriage", according to the court records.
Prosecutors said this man failed to prove that his marriage was real, as investigators found out that he and his alleged wife "didn't even live at the same address".
He was arrested at an airport, while attempting to board a plane bound for Turkey.
Born in Baku, he graduated from Azerbaijani State Economy University. Before the arrest, he worked as a manager at Cell Ace, a mobile phone repair service. -25В-
