Expatriate Politician Says His Brother Arrested on False Charges
Baku / 21.12.17 / Turan: Sahib Teymurov, head of the NGO Care for Orphanages, who is in political emigration in Canada, announced his brother"s arrest on charges of illicit drug trafficking. He wrote about this on his Facebook page.
According to him, on December 7, his brother Tahir Teymurov and his wife, daughter and son were delivered to the Barda District Police Department for no reason. They were pressured to renounce Sahib Teymurov.
After that, his nephews in their comments to Sahib Teymurov"s publications wrote that he is a traitor to the homeland, and they hate him.
At the same time, Sahib Teymurov's brother Tahir was again summoned to the police on December 8 and until December 21 there was no information about him.
Today it became known that he was arrested on charges of distributing drugs after they "discovered" 5 grams of heroin in his car. The arrested man was sent to Gandja Pre-trial Detention Center. His rights are protected by a state attorney.
Sahib Teymurov accuses the Azerbaijani leadership of the arrest of his brother.
According to Sahib Teymurov, he is being pressured to stop writing critical statuses on Facebook. However, Sahib Teymurov said he would not cease his activities.
Sahib Teymurov also notes that he was forced to leave the country because of his "prepared" arrest in connection with the distribution of a video interview with a student of Sheki orphanage, who claimed to be tortured, on the Internet.
It should be noted that Sahib Teymurov was arrested in 2007 after he publicized the identification of a minor girl with AIDS who was sexually exploited.
The state-appointed attorney Seymour Zeynalov confirmed Turan that Tahir Teymurov was arrested in the town of Barda, and is charged under the Article 234.4.3 (large-scale illegal drug trafficking.) A preventive measure was imposed on him in the form of arrest for a period of 4 months, and he has already been sent to Ganja pre-trial detention center. According to the investigation, he was detained with four gram of heroine. The state attorney argues that Tahir Teymurov gave confessions. Tahir Teymurov faces a sentence of imprisonment from 5 to 12 years. -06D-
