Geologist about Causes of Road Subsidence
Baku / 05.01.18 / Turan: Road subsidence in Baku is not so much connected with the quality of construction, as with groundwater. This opinion was expressed by the head of the geological planning expedition of the National Geological Exploration Service of the Ministry of Environment Aziz Garalov.
As for the specific case of road sinking on Nobel Avenue on January 4, the expert noted that such cases had already happened there twice in 2017 and 2018.
One of the reasons is that there is a large collector and leakage is possible. Another reason is related to the human factor. The population and the number of houses are growing in the capital, but there are not enough sewage lines. This contributes to the growth of groundwater, which fills the voids and washes off the sand layers, which leads to subsidence, the expert believes. -05B-
