Press Review - 11.08.17

The Azerbaijani-Turkmen relations, high prices and inflation, and problems with investing in local resort areas are the leading topics of today's press.

The Azerbaijan writes about the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan against the backdrop of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov's visit, calling this country a trusted partner. The author of the article writes about the strengthening of relations between Turkic-speaking countries over the past 14 years.

The Echo published an article titled Growth of Inflation by End of 2017 Predicted in Azerbaijan. Inflation continues to be quite high, and one can only dream about one-digit indicators of the inflation rate in the country. The Center for Economic and Social Development (CESD) conducted its study of inflation. The results of the study showed slight differences of about 4% with the data given by the State Statistics Committee. According to the calculations, for 6 months of this year, inflation in Azerbaijan was 18%. This is a very high indicator for the country. So far, Azerbaijan cannot boast of special achievements in terms of curbing the inflationary process, however, some experts say that relative "stability" with 18% of inflation is already a good achievement under current realities, and the main thing is that it should not be worse.

The Novoye Vremya published an article entitled Local Resorts Not Profitable for Investors. It is not so interesting that Azerbaijani companies invest in the economy of other countries, as this is already normal practice. Interesting is the fact is that the sphere they intend to deal with has its own alternatives in Azerbaijan. But here they are not in a hurry with such proposals, although in Azerbaijan from year to year the number of sanatoriums and other facilities of this type are decreasing. Whereas seven years ago there were more than 80, now there are 68 of them. At the same time, of the 68, only 12-13 are more or less operated. -0-
