Press Review December 21, 2017
The course of reforms in the country, rising unemployment, and the authorities' hostility to criticism are the leading topics of today's press.
The newspaper Azerbaijan publishes an article by MP Tahir Mirkishili about the country's entry into a period of rapid development. He believes that the year 2017 was significant from an economic point of view. According to the indicators of 9 months of this year, for the first time in two years the surplus in the non-oil sector decreased by $ 200 million. Macroeconomic stability is ensured, the MP believes. Then he shares his expectations for 2018.
The website Azadliq.info published an article titled Why Did Aliyev's Assistants Fuss? The author concerns the criticism of the Finansial Times" publication by the official Baku.
It speaks of the hereditary dictatorship, the bribery of MEPs, and the violation of human rights in the country.
However, the article does not say anything new - everyone knows about this. Nevertheless, Azerbaijani officials accuse this publication of anti-Azerbaijani policies, bias, creation of international tension and other sins. They continue to assert that Azerbaijan is following the path of democracy and is a country of stability, security and tolerance.
The newspaper Novoye Vremya published an article titled There Will Not Be Jobs for All, Especially for Youth. The Minister of Labor and Social Protection Salim Muslimov said that in 2003-2017, 1.9 million new jobs were created in Azerbaijan, 1.4 million of which, or 74%, are permanent.
By 2025, another 450,000 jobs are planned to be opened in the country, which will be 50 thousand per year, he said. The number of young people who reached the age of 18 in 2017-2025 is 2.5 times more than the number of new jobs. -0-----
