Prosecutor calls to condemn Mammadli to nine years

Today  state prosecutor addressed  in the Baku Serious Crimes a the trial in the case  of the head of the Elections Monitoring and Democratic Studies Centre (EMDSC) Anar Mammadov and two other activists, Bashir Suleymanli  and Elnur Mammadov.

He offered to recognize all three defendants guilty on all points of the sentenced: Mammedli to nine years imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold positions in the public, private and social structures within three years; Suleymanli - 8.5 years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold office for two years; Elnur Mammadov - 8,5 years with deprivation of the right to hold office for two years.

The prosecutor also requested to change the measure of restraint for Suleymanliand  Mamedov, and to  arrest them in the courtroom. The defense asked for a week to prepare for the final speech.

Fariz Namazly, protecting the rights of Mammadov, made ​​a closing statement. He stated about the political motives of the case, and demanded justification for his client.

* The head of the EMDSC Anar Mammadov, Executive Director of the NGO - Suleymanli Bashir and the head of the Public Association for International Cooperation of Volunteers (PAICV) Elnur Mammadov  is charged under the Criminal Code 5 - tax evasion, illegal business, abuse of office, embezzlement on a large scale and officials forgery. A lawsuit was filed at the end of October 2013. On December 17 Mammadov was taken into custody, and two others are under house arrest. The real reason for his arrest is the conclusion of faced presidential elections in Azerbaijan in October 2013. Amnesty International Mammedli recognized as a "prisoner of conscience." -16D-
