This year Ashura will be marked November 4
This year the mourning in the Shiite Muslim month of Muharram begins on October 26 and the peak of mourning, Ashura is celebrated on November 4.
This was announced today at a special event in the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO) on occasion of Muharram.
Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram. On this day in 680 AD in the desert near the town of Kerbela in an unequal battle with the Umayyad was murdered the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and the son of Imam Ali, Hussein and a group of his supporters.
The followers of Imam Ali (Shiites) believe Hussein was a martyr and annually celebrate Ashura as a general mourning. However, Sunnis believe Hussein was a mere mortal. -05D-
