Azerbaijan commemorates 30th anniversary of Khojaly genocide
Baku/26.02.22/Turan: Azerbaijan today marks the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
On the night of February 26, 1992, the combined Armenian and military forces of the former Soviet Army shot the residents of the Karabakh town of Khojaly.
After 44 days of war and defeat of the Armenian army in the fall of 2020, Azerbaijanis are commemorating this mournful date with different feelings. Azerbaijani society awaits the complete de-occupation of Karabakh, as envisaged by the trilateral declaration signed at the end of the war.
A few days before the Khojaly genocide, on February 17, 1992, 67 civilians, including children, women and elderly were killed with particular cruelty in the village of Garadagly in Khojavand region. Not satisfied with this, armed Armenians and soldiers of the 366th regiment of Soviet Army attacked the town of Khojaly on the night of February 25-26, killing 613 people in the town and fleeing from it.
Of the killed 63 were children, 106 women, 70 elderly;
8 families annihilated completely;
25 children lost both parents;
130 children lost one parent;
487 persons (including 76 children) were wounded;
People taken hostage - 1,275;
Missing persons - 150.
Since then Azerbaijan has been conducting a worldwide campaign "Justice for Khojaly", claiming that the genocide was committed. Khojaly massacre is recognized and marked by the parliamentary acts in ten countries and 21 states of the United States. The number of countries expressing different forms of recognition of this tragedy is rising annually. -0-
