Presentation of Book 350

Baku / 20.07.18 / Turan: On Friday, the library of the National Academy of Sciences hosted the presentation of the book 350 in Russian by the well-known journalist Arif Aliyev.

This artwork is based on historical facts concerning the occupation of Azerbaijan by the 11th Red Army in April 1920 and the overthrow of the government of the Azerbaijan People's Republic (1918-1920).

The book is devoted to a little-known episode of this story - the first battle of the armored train of the Red Army in the town of Yalama on the Azerbaijani-Russian border with a small detachment of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.

In those days, regular units of the Azerbaijani army were busy suppressing the hostilities of the Armenian separatists under the leadership of the Dashnaks in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the country"s northern borders were stripped.

Several hundred fighters entered into an unequal battle with the Red Army of many thousands and gave their lives in the name of fulfilling their military duty and protecting the country from intervention.

For almost 100 years the fate of these soldiers and the fact of the fighting were hushed up, and in Soviet historiography, in general it was written that the population of Azerbaijan met the Red Army with flowers and open arms.

The book 350 tells about the fate of those same soldiers who took that unequal battle and about the political situation in Azerbaijan, in the region and in the world in those years.

Speakers at the presentation noted the great historical and ideological significance of this work.

Arif Aliyev himself said the original of the book was written in Azerbaijani and the Russian edition is intended for the Russian-speaking reader and the distribution of the book outside the country.

He also noted that on the basis of the investigated materials a documentary film of the same name was shot, which should be completed in the autumn of this year. -02D-
