Tofig Yagublu: Mass actions will continue
Baku/24.01.19/Turan: Hunger strike demanding freedom for blogger Mehman Huseynov and other political prisoners has reached the goal, said in an interview with Turan Tofig Yagublu, an initiator of the hunger strike, a member of the board of the Musavat party, and a member of the coordinating center of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF.)
The purpose of the action was to highlight the problem, attracting the attention of local and world community. Society and the international press reacted at the proper level, said Yagublu.
According to him, the hunger strike was an extreme step, as courts in the country are independent, the legal system does not work and it is impossible to achieve justice in official structures.
"In countries with the authoritarian regimes, the hunger strike is a step of desperation, despite the risk to life," he said.
However, despite the termination of the criminal case against Mehman Huseynov, the problem of political prisoners is not resolved. Therefore, the opposition intends to seek their release, conducting mass actions and other political activities.
The authorities are still trying not to notice these demands, but when the pressure increases, they will be forced to reckon with the will of the people.
According to him, the authorities are trying in every way to bring down the protest wave: it puts pressure on the rally participants on January 19, calling the police.
Yagublu did not rule out that the authorities do not sanction the rally on January 26. "If they do not allow the rally on January 26, then we will have to use other methods. For example, hold rallies at the same time in different areas.
We can hold unauthorized rallies. We offer the authorities the most convenient and civilized way.
In any case, we will not retreat and must win. In general, the movement will not fade away, it is only growing," said Yagublu. -0-
