BP suspended extraction on oldest production platform in Caspian Sea

On November 10, 2015 BP-Azerbaijan company, operator of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) bloc of fields development, suspended Chirag platform for the preventive works.

BP-Azerbaijan press office reported that the preventive works are included into the annual program of works and will last 25 days. According to the plan, during this period oil extraction on the platform will be suspended.

BP-Azerbaijan reported that suspension of production on the Chirag platform is needed for the efficient performance of preventive, inspection and project works.

BP-Azerbaijan reported that despite suspension of the Chirag platform, extraction from the remaining platforms on the ACG contract area and oil transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) and Baku-Supsa oil pipelines will be continued as usual. The terminals in Sangachal and Ceyhan will also continue working as usual.

In the first semi-annual period in 2015 55,000 barrels of oil a day was extracted from the Chirag platform. Oil extraction from the Chirag platform started since November 1997. This is the first production platform of BP in the Caspian Sea.—0—
