Grain yield decreased due to drought
Collecting grain in Azerbaijan is nearing completion. This year the weather conditions were not favorable for farmers, especially in the foothill areas where the drought has not received adequate soil moisture levels.
According to the State Statistics Committee, as of July 7, 88.8% of the acreage of cereals and legumes was harvested. There was collected 1,926,700 tons of grain, including 1,239,200 tons of wheat. Yield of 23.7 quintals per 1 ha. Recall that last year the average yield was 27.6 quintals.
The Director of the Institute of Agriculture Javanshir Telai told Turan that the main reason for the reduction in crop is drought, which accounted for 40% of the area under cereals. In addition, many farmers do not comply with the requirements in shifts sowing and fallow. In addition, the reduction of productivity is facilitated by the use of low reproduction seeds.
This year, the area under cereals constitutes 961,000 hectares. - 08B-
