Head of Azerkosmos: "First of All - LEO Satellites"

On the night of 7 to 8 February Azerbaijani satellite Azerspace-1 was launched from Kourou in French Guiana (South America). Thus, our country entered the "club".

Turan was told about it by the Chairman of Azerkosmos Rashad Nuriyev who participated in a ceremony on the occasion of the launch of the sputnik. He said the aerospace industry is a new segment in diversifying the economy. In coming years, Azerbaijan plans to launch the first step of low-orbit satellites, and then - until 2020 - one or more optical and radar satellites. The placing in orbit is of great importance from the point of view of national security and economic interests in Azerbaijan satellite remote sensing studies have been conducted of the local and foreign markets. They have explored the use and application of this low-orbit satellite even on the basis of requirements defining the technical parameters of the satellite, and work began on its construction.

It turned out that in Azerbaijan there are opportunities for effective use of the services of these satellites in monitoring security infrastructure of strategic importance, support from space prevention and emergency management, solving problems in the field of cartography and surveying, property, the environment, agriculture, management transport and communications infrastructure, monitoring of the environment. In addition, it is important to predict and study the origin of man-made emergencies, the assessment scale oil spill on the sea and on land, the study of a number of other important areas.

In line with the objectives identified in the "State program for the creation and development of space industry in Azerbaijan Republic", and trends in the world, Azerkosmos is conducting a phased work to ensure reliable and high quality satellite communications, ensuring information security. Work is under way to improve the economic power and the research capacity of the country using the capabilities of remote sensing, satellite formation not only industry, but also the national space industry in general, the creation and development of productive capacities in the field of space activities, improvement of the legal framework governing space activities , expansion of international integration.

It is expected that the field of communications and information technology will be the most developed sector of Azerbaijan's economy after oil. The widespread use of information and communication technologies, serving the comprehensive development of the country, is of particular importance from the point of view of national security in the information area. Favorable geo-economic and geographical location of Azerbaijan, located in the space where the information highways intersect, dictates the need for independence from foreign countries in the exchange of information.

"Training and placing into orbit telecommunications satellites, which are a major component of economic and information security, turn Azerbaijan into the leading country in the field of communication in the region," said Nabiyev.

Creation and development of productive capacities in the field of space activities will stimulate the expansion of international integration in various areas of space sector, as well as improvement of the legal framework governing space activities.

According to the head of Azerkosmos, ICT is the second main branch of economy after oil. Because given the special importance in this respect of satellite communication, we can confidently say that the planned satellite missions have not only political or commercial in nature, but also focus on the long-term development strategy. - 17D-
