SOCAR KEEN ON EXPORTING GAS TO SOUTH
    BAKU/23.08.10/TURAN: SOCAR is upgrading the Astara gas compressor station on the schedule. The station currently lets Azerbaijan supply 1-1.2 million m3 of gas per day to Iran now. The upgrading will let Azerbaijan supply 5 million m3. This will also increase the supplies of Azerbaijani gas to the exclave Nakhchivan Autonomy via Iran.
     Six new gas compressors will be launched at Stage 1 and four more at Stage 2 of the upgrading. The pressure will be 70-75 Pa.
     * SOCAR"s delegation headed by Rovnag Abdullayev (the President) visited the Astara station a few days ago. They approved the upgrading.
     * The Astara station is of strategic importance for Azerbaijan. The supplies to the south will increase to 1.8 billion m3 per annum. Iran wants to import 5 billion m3 per annum. The sides are to sign a long-term gas supply agreement this fall. --12D--
