Sown Area of Grain Decreased 10.6%
In 2014, under crops were 1 612.7 thousand ha, 93.6% of sown areas on land balance of the country as of January 1 of the previous year. This is stated in the report of the Ministry of Agriculture.
In the past year due to adverse weather and climatic conditions were destroyed 55.7 thousand ha of winter crop area, and grain yield and so on crops were reduced.
Not better are things this year. As of 1 January 2015, crops were sown on 875.7 thousand ha, which is 10.6% less than last year.
According to experts, if the farmers are not able to get a good harvest this year, dependence on grain imports will rise even a few percentage points. The consumption of grain in Azerbaijan is estimated at about 3.8-4 million tons. According to official data, 40% of the demand is met through imports. The State Grain Fund operates and the reserves amount to 750 thousand tons
According to the land balance, under permanent crops (fruit trees, vineyards and private plantations) there are 151.2 thousand hectares of land. -----08B
