Anticorruption Department of the Prosecutor's Office considers 117 cases
Baku/25.07.18/Turan: In the first half of the year, the General Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General launched four criminal cases in those caught red-handed on the scene of the crime. Another five criminal cases were initiated on the basis of information on corruption offenses, announced the head of the said department Kamran Aliyev at today's press conference. In addition, in the case of 184 persons, investigations were completed in 115 criminal cases, which were sent for consideration to the courts. At the same time, 42 cases against 79 persons are related to crimes of misappropriation and embezzlement. 50 persons were brought to responsibility in 30 cases on charges of fraud, by abuse of official authority.
14 people are convicted of abuse of office in 12 criminal cases.
Nine people are involved in criminal cases under articles on giving bribes and instigating a bribe.
Two persons are accused of taking bribes. The rest are involved in corruption crimes. Aliyev pointed to a large number of crimes related to the construction of housing. Thus, nine such criminal cases against 18 persons were sent to the courts.
In addition, 18 criminal cases against 43 persons involved in violations in banks and non-bank credit organizations were submitted to the courts for consideration. The compensation to citizens was provided for 17 million 610 thousand manats. Of these, 6 million 860 thousand manats were returned in connection with the multiple sale of apartments.
Seven officials were prosecuted for cases of illegal mining of stone quarries and other minerals after the collapse of the bridge on the Goychay River on June 2. Currently, the management is being investigated by 117 cases. -03D06-

In late December, the Nakhchivan Court for Serious Crimes concluded the trial of former Minister of Finance of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), Rafael Aliyev, and former head of the Nakhchivan Customs Committee’s department, Mansur Askerov. Both were accused of embezzling state budget funds in collusion with others. In his testimony, Askerov revealed that illegal fees were being collected for cargo and from passengers. Sahat Habibbeyli, appointed head of Nakhchivan Customs in 2020, had instructed Askerov to include only a portion of the collected funds in the Transport and International Relations (TIR) program.

The "Republican Alternative" Party (REAL) has proposed a program to reform local governance ahead of the municipal elections on January 29, aiming to expand opportunities for economic activity at the municipal level. The new program has been developed with consideration of the existing economic problems in the country.
