Appeal filed against arrest of Alesker Mammadli
An appeal has been filed against the arrest of "Toplum TV" founder Alesker Mammadli, lawyer Agyl Laij told Turan.
According to him, the defence is asking to cancel the decision on Mammadli's pre-trial detention for 4 months.
"There is no material and procedural basis for detaining Alesker Mammadli on charges of money smuggling," the lawyer stressed. In addition, he continued, Mammadli has serious health problems.
"He has a tumour in his body. Persons with such problems are not only not arrested, but also released from serving their sentences," the lawyer said.
He said the Baku Court of Appeal should consider the complaint within three days.
An appeal will also be filed against the arrest of Ruslan Izzetli, a member of the Institute for Democratic Initiatives and "Platform III", who is also charged under Article 206.3.2 (smuggling by prior conspiracy of persons) of the Criminal Code.
Recall that Mammadli and Izzetli were detained on 8 March. Earlier, 7 more employees of "Toplum TV" and the Institute for Democratic Initiatives were detained on 6 March. Five of them were taken into custody and two others were placed under police supervision.
Appeals have been filed against those arrested.--
