Are Azerbaijani citizens arrested in Iran, released?
The fate of the Azerbaijani citizens, a writer Khalida Khalid and her driver Shamhal Huseynov who were arrested in Iran on April 30 remains unclear. Despite the appearance of May 19 the information referring to the Iranian officials about the release of those arrested, these individuals are still being held in Iran.
The information on the release of Azerbaijani citizens was distributed during the visit of the head of the Caucasian Muslims Board (CMB), Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade to Iran on May 18-21. This was reported by Iranian media and Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan. However, the Azerbaijani side was not provided with official information.
The hopes that the arrested will return with the Azerbaijani delegation did not come true.
The observers are inclined to believe that the information on the release of Azerbaijani citizens meant that Khalid and Huseinov could be released if Baku releases the arrested employee of the administration of Ardabil city, Iranian Kazim Husseini.
Nothing is reported about the time and the reasons for his arrest of Husseini in Azerbaijan.-05B/D-
