Event in Baku on the occasion of the signing of agreements between the EU and Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine
Delegation of the European Union in Azerbaijan on Thursday organized a reception on the occasion of signing the EU Association Agreements with Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The head of the EU Delegation in Baku, Malena Mard, called the signing of these agreements a landmark event for Europe.
In her speech, she reminded the statement on this occasion the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, who called June 27, when the agreement was signed "a great day in Europe", and expressed its full support by Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine for the EU.
The Ambassador of Georgia, Teimuraz Sharashenidze, said the signing of an association agreement with the EU became a reflection of the choice of the Georgian people of European values. The European integration is now not only the foreign policy of Georgia, it is also a value orientations in domestic politics.
Association with the EU opens up new possibilities for the Georgian economy and business due to the abolition of trade tariffs and visas, Sharashenidze said.
Moldovan embassy representative also stressed his country's commitment to European integration and deepening of partnership with the EU. In his view, economic integration with Europe will contribute to improving the living standards of the population, and this factor will reflect positively on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
The Ukrainian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Alexander Mishchenko, said that the events in Kiev on Maidan showed that Ukrainian society shares European values and readiness of Ukraine to European integration.
He noted that by signing an association agreement with the EU, Ukraine reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, the rule of law as the highest values, and chose this course as an independent policy of the ultimate goal, which will be the country's membership in the EU in the future.—06С--
