Every Fifth Inhabitant of Azerbaijan Considers Corruption Major Problem

The global coalition against corruption, Transparency International issued a report Global Corruption Barometer for 2016. Information about this has been extended by the NGO Transparency Azerbaijan.

The report is based on population surveys. In Azerbaijan, 1,510 people were interviewed between April and August. 45% of the respondents believe that corruption has decreased in the country. In 2013, 41% of the respondents thought so, and in 2010 the figure was 28%.

At the same time, 21% of the respondents believe that corruption is the biggest problem of the country. The same number of respondents see the main problem in the shortcomings of the education system.

Most people are concerned about unemployment, since 59% of yje respondents named it the main problem.

9% are concerned most of all about crime, and 8% - about the level of public health.

15% of the respondents negatively assessed the government's efforts to combat corruption.

24% of the respondents positively assessed the anti-corruption activities of the government.

60% of the respondents did not answer this question.

11% believe officials and politicians are corrupt.

However, the majority of respondents found it difficult to answer these questions. Half of the respondents did not answer this question.

At the same time, 21% of the respondents named police officers corrupt, 18% named employees of tax and financial bodies, 16% named judges, and 14% named local authorities.

10% of the respondents believe businessmen are corrupt, while 9% of users of public services in Azerbaijan stated they had to pay bribes. -03D06-
