The Nasimi Court unlawfully extends the arrest of Rauf Mirkadyrov
The Nasimi Court Judge, Elman Isaev, unlawfully extended the arrest of journalist Rauf Mirkadyrov for five months. This decision was made on November 20, i.e. a day after the term of arrest expired. "This is a flagrant violation of Procedure Code, since it is impossible to extend what is not,"said one of the lawyers of the journalist, Fuad Agayev. He further noted that on November 20 almost all day, along with another lawyer Elmar Suleymanov he tried to get a meeting with Rauf Mirkadyrov. "However, in jail were were told that he was passing medical examination. It became known later, that just at that time Nasimi court was passing its illegal decision. We reserve the right to appeal this decision," said the lawyer.
Mirkadyrov was arrested on 19 April, and from that moment started the period of his detention. Two days later, the court arrested him for three months, which was extended in July for another four months. The journalistis accused of spying for Armenia, which he allegedly carried out on behalf of human rights activist Leyla Yunus. Mirkadyrov and Leyla Yunus can be imprisoned for a long term. -16/06D-
