Visit of American Delegation Canceled at Urging of Baku
The visit of the U.S. delegation to Azerbaijan was canceled, according to Radio Azadlig, referring to the U.S. Embassy.
"The Azerbaijani government wanted to postpone the visit until the presidential election on October 9. We regret that the visit of the delegation to familiarize with the pre-election situation will not take place," the statement from the U.S. Embassy said.
However, the report states that "the U.S. embassy continues to monitor the pre-election situation with attention and calls for a free and fair electoral process reflecting the will of the people."
As we learned from diplomatic sources, the talk is about the visit of the delegation headed by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Thomas Melia.
