Visit of Mehriban Aliyeva to France
Baku / 12.03.19 / Turan: Prospects for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and France were discussed on March 12 at the talks in Paris by First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva with the Prime Minister of this country, Eduard Philippe.
During the conversation, Philippe noted the successful development of relations between the two countries in the political, economic and other areas and stated good prospects for cooperation.
Noting that French companies operate in the oil and non-oil sectors of Azerbaijan, Philippe stressed the importance of greater activity of these companies in the Azerbaijani market.
Azerbaijan"s First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva expressed confidence that her current visit will make an important contribution to the development of bilateral cooperation.
Noting that 59 French companies operate in Azerbaijan, she called on them to be more active. Aliyeva stressed the importance of holding a meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission this year.
Touching on cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, in the field of science and culture, Aliyeva noted the great interest in Azerbaijan to the French language and literature, which is taught in more than 300 schools in the country. In addition, there is a center of French language and literature at the Azerbaijan University of Languages, a center of French at the Baku Slavic University, Baku French Lyceum and French-Azerbaijani University.
Regarding the Karabakh conflict, Aliyeva stated that the current status quo is unacceptable. There are 4 resolutions of the UN Security Council related to the settlement of the conflict. The conflict should be resolved on the basis of these resolutions, within the framework of international law, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, she said.
Prime Minister Eduard Philippe stressed that France is committed to peace negotiations and is in favor of resolving the conflict within the framework of international law.
After the meeting, the signing ceremony of the Azerbaijani-French documents took place.
The Convention on the reconstruction of the Sumgayit-Yalama railway line within the North-South transport corridor was signed by Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov and State Secretary of the Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Baptiste Lemoine.
The agreement on strategic cooperation between the Central Bank of Azerbaijan and the Bank Rothschild & Cie was signed by the Chairman of the Central Bank Elman Rustamov and the General Director of Bank Rothschild & Cie Ariel Malard de Rothschild.
The agreement on the establishment of the Operational Control Center and the agreement on the implementation of the signaling and telecommunication system of the Khojasan depot were signed by the head of the Baku Metro Zaur Huseynov and the General Director of Thales International Rafael Eskinazi.
During the visit, Aliyeva met with David de Rothschild, head of Rothschild Global Financial Advisory, Eric Gebali, Executive Vice President of Suez Group, and David Hayat, founder and former President of the French National Cancer Institute.--0--

On January 13, the trial in the case of public activist Nijat Ibrahim continued in the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Aygun Gurbanova.
