The verdict on the journalist Rasim Aliyev’s death case has been filed an appeal, the lawyer for the victim Fariz Namazly told Radio Azadlig.
"Both during the investigation and the trial we asked to investigate the medical negligence in the death of Rasim Aliyev. Despite our request, this motif was not sufficiently investigated," said the lawyer, demanding that the appellate court cancel the verdict and return the case for further investigation.
Rasim Aliyev was beaten by a group of men on 8 August 2015 after posting a comment about the negative behavior of the soccer player Javid Huseynov on his Facebook page.
On August 9 in the morning the journalist died in hospital. Five people have been charged under Article 126.3 of the Criminal Code (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm causing death).
The Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced five defendants: Elshan Ismayilov was sentenced to 13 years in prison, Arif Aliyev - to 12 years and six months, Jamal Mammadov - to 11 years, Kanan Madatov and Samir Mustafayev - to 9 years in prison.
On the case against the soccer player Javid Huseynov the criminal investigation is ongoing. -0-
