Ikram Rahimovs Arrest Prolonged
Baku / 20.12.18 / Turan: On 20 December, the Sabail Court considered a petition to extend the term of arrest to the editor of the realliq.info website Ikram Rahimov. The petition was made by the structure that investigates the arrested journalist.
As the journalist"s relatives told Radio Azadlig, his lawyers opposed the petition. According to them, Ikram Rahimov was previously involved in the investigation and never shied away from it. Having accepted this basis, the lawyers asked the court to reject the petition to extend the period of arrest of the journalist.
Ikram Rahimov participated in the court session and even spoke.
"I was arrested without any justification. I was arrested immediately after publishing an article about the head of the socio-political department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov. The fact speaks for itself, proving why, being innocent, I was arrested. I have sharp headaches. My conditions are so that I have lost count of days," he said at the trial.
According to his relatives, two years ago a judicial investigation was carried out against the journalist, and he was arrested for slander. He stated that he always came to the court when called, and never shied away from questions or from the investigation. Ikram Rahimov asked the court not to satisfy the petition.
However, the judiciary under the representation of the judge of the Sabail Court Shahin Abdullayev increased the term of Rahimov"s arrest by 2 months 28 days.
His relatives intend to file an appeal. It was not possible to get a comment from official structures on Ikram Rahimov"s statement.
On October 26, Ikram Rahimov was detained by the the State Security Service officers, and then his arrest was authorized. Before his arrest, Rahimov said he was being followed up, the reason for which is his criticism of Ali Hasanov. He was accused of repeated extortion by threats by prior agreement of a group of individuals (182.2.1 and 1822.2).
In 2016 Ikram Rahimov was deprived of his liberty for a period of one year for slander, but was released ahead of time. -- 0--
