Ilgar Mamedov Does Not Intend to Seek Pardon
The leader of the movement Republican Alternative (REAL) Ilgar Mamedov will not ask for mercy. He stated this to his associates that visited him in Prison N 2 yesterday.
The Board member of REAL, Azer Gasimli on his Facebook page wrote that together with Erkin Ghadirli and Natig Jafarli he visited Mamedov in jail on November 2 and they “thoroughly discussed all the issues” for three hours.
Mamedov asked not to condemn NIDA activists for their appeal to the head of state for clemency. According to Mamedov, "human rights activists, NGO leaders or young activists willing to write a petition for clemency can do it without any hesitation."
"They have to take care of themselves and not to sacrifice themselves to the political regime. They will be required by the nation. The main thing is not to be crushed inside," Gasimli quoted Mamedov.
However, Mamedov said that he, being the head of a political organization, cannot and will not write such an application.
* Ilgar Mamedov was arrested on charges of rioting in the town Ismayilly in January 2013 and sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment.
The European Court of Human Rights found a violation of his rights and called for the release of Mamedov. The Council of Europe has repeatedly called on Baku to execute the decision of the European Court and release Mamedov, but Azerbaijani authorities ignore these messages. -16D06-
