Ministry of Foreign Affairs keeps silence around scandal in Spain
Last week, the Azerbaijani society discussed versions of the reasons for the unexpected dismissal ofdeputy Milly Mejdis, professor and academician Abel Maharramov from the post of the rector of Baku State University, published in the press.
Some media reprinted a version of the pro-government website about the uncovered illegal fraud of Maharramov, who was carrying smuggled Azerbaijani wine to Spain, and the pro-government television channel claimed that the plane was unable to lift two tons of cargo simultaneously with nine passengers and several crew members. Anar Maharramov, the son of A.Maharramov is the ambassador of Azerbaijan to Spain, who was directly involved in this fraud, according to the media.
If a version of the illegal activities of the ambassador of Azerbaijan is being discussed, the country's foreign ministry should bring clarity to the society. The Foreign Ministry did not make an official statement, nor did it disprove the rumors. The site missiya.az made a request to the Foreign Ministry about AnarMaharramov, and received the answer of the head of the press service Abdullayeva, expressed in one phrase: "I cannot answer this question."
Political analyst ElhanShainoglu believes that such a response from the Foreign Ministry points to the lack of professionalism of the Foreign Minister,ElmarMammadyarov. The dismissal of Abel Maharramov cannot be unreasonable, and if the media and society directly connected the presidential decree about the dismissal of the rector with the ambassador to Spain, then the Foreign Ministry should explain it; and the representative of the Foreign Ministry does not even say that he "has no information," which would have looked better than her answer: "I cannot," the political scientist emphasizes.
The minister"s responsibility for the moral character of ambassadors is the most direct, since if the president of a state appoints ambassadors to foreign countries, the minister of foreign affairs represents him. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should establish a commission to investigate the activities of AnarMaharramov. Maybe the commission has been created, but the public is not informed about what is happening,"Shainoglu added.
To this, we add that the Foreign Ministry did not make an official explanation also about the scandalous revelations from the public figure Pasha Mamedov about the activities of the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine, AzerKhudiyev. http://teref.az/siyaset/103191-memmedyarovun-gormediyi-kiyev-sefir-azerbaycanlilarla-niye-vurusur.html

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
