Press Review 19.12. 2017

The experience of Azerbaijan in holding international events, the shortage of manat in the country, and the difference in statistical data are the leading topics of today's press.

The Azerbaijan newspaper writes that Baku can become an excellent place for the Expo- 2025 because it has experience in holding major international events. The author recalls this experience with the example of international events already held. Baku nominated its candidature for the Expo 2025. This exhibition, held since 1851, is the largest, global and sustainable event in the world.

The Echo newspaper published an article titled The Central Bank of Azerbaijan Creates Money Hunger in the Country. Further reduction of the money supply can inflict enormous damage on the economy of Azerbaijan, so the Central Bank should stop playing dubious games and gradually start raising the manat in the coming year. For a long time, the Central Bank has been conducting deposit auctions, the main purpose of which is sterilization of the money supply. The Central Bank collects AZN accumulations from commercial banks at these auctions. As a result, a significant part of the cash manat supply comes out of circulation and forms in the Central Bank's depositories. Sterilization of the money supply has yet led to the fact that the Azerbaijani economy is experiencing financial starvation.

The Novoye Vremya newspaper published an article titled The Oddities of November Statistics. If we compare the State Statistics data for 10 and 11 months, then we will get quite a big difference in many indicators. In particular, this regards indicators of the share of private companies in the Azerbaijani export. While as a result of 10 months, the transactions carried out by private companies amounted to $ 1.7 billion, then by November this indicator increased to $ 4.4 billion. In other words, there was an increase of $ 2.7 billion, or 158%. The total aggregate export for November amounted to 1 billion dollars. And how they managed to receive 2.7 billion dollars in the private sector from USD 1 billion remains a riddle. -0-
