Representatives of the Ombudsman promised to visit Amiraslanov
Representatives of the Ombudsman's office promised to visit today the civil activist, a resident of the village Askerbeyli in Sabirabad Ilham Amiraslanov arrested on charges of possession of firearms.
Appeal to the Ombudsman about the need for a meeting with Amiraslanov came June 18 on behalf of the Director of Turan Information Agency Mehman Aliyev and the staff coordinator of civil society "Kur" Oktay Gyulalyev. However, since then the representatives of the Ombudsman have not found the time to visit Amiraslanov in the detention center in Kurdakhani. On the "hot line" of the Ombudsman's office it is explained with an international conference.
Amiraslanov, who for two years actively campaigned for the rights of the victims of floods in 2010, was arrested on June 8, 3 days after taking part in a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov.
The Minister promised to address the unresolved issues of the victims, but instead they arrested the civil society activist and began to put even more pressure on the locals, forcing them to abandon their claims to the government.
The arrest of Amiraslanov was accompanied by violation of the national and international legislation. From the prison, he sent a letter to the prosecutor of the republic, and reported on the torture in the police custody in order to make him recognize the planted pistol and ammunition as belonging to him.
Amiraslanov was arrested 4 days prior to the release from arrest on false charges of the Staff Coordinator of "Kur" Oktay Gyulalyev, who also said he had been tortured after his arrest.
The civil society "Kur" staff was created by non-governmental organizations to protect the rights of citizens affected by the flooding in 2010. -0 –

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
