Well-known entrepreneur expressed readiness to help the family of Ogtay Gyulalyev
Baku / 02.11.19 / Turan: Well-known businessman, head of the Palmali group of companies, Mubariz Mansimov, expressed his readiness to provide material support to the family of human rights activist Ogtay Gyulalyev, who was hit by a car on October 29. He received a severe head injury resulting in cerebral hemorrhage. After a complicated surgical operation, Gyulalyev remains in a coma.
“I personally have not been with Ogtay, after the events of recent days, incoming messages and videos, they ask me to help him,” Mansimov writes on his facebook page.
He emphasizes that the political views of a person in distress do not matter to him. “It is enough that you are a citizen of the country and you need to be helped so as not to seek outside help,” Mansimov notes. He also expresses bewilderment at the lack of an insurance system in the country that would ensure the social protection of a citizen.
According to Mansimov, they will contact the Gyulalyev family and find out the need for help.

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
