New Ataman of Cossacks of Azerbaijan
On November 9 in Baku an extraordinary meeting (Circle) of the Fraternity of Cossacks of Azerbaijan was held. On the agenda was the question of choosing a new chieftain of the Fraternity after the death of Ataman Victor Mereshkin in April 2015. He led the Fraternity of Cossacks of Azerbaijan since its inception in November 1994.
The meeting on November 9 was attended by 106 of 166 people stated on the Fraternity lists.
Of the four candidates, one did not come to the meeting and the other two rejected.
In an open vote by a majority vote Yuri Chigirev was elected Ataman of the Cossacks Fraternity in Azerbaijan.
There were 87 votes for, 2 against and 2 abstained.
Chigirev thanked for their trust and said he would respect and honor the traditions established in the Fraternity since its inception. The main focus of his future work will be on the development of youth work.
Note that there were representatives of the Cossacks in Azerbaijan after joining the Russian Empire. Most of them were paramilitary formations of the Russian army. After the 1917 revolution, the Cossacks were virtually dissolved among the Russian population. -02D-

The driver miraculously remained unharmed but vowed to seek justice, promising to file an official complaint with the prosecutor’s office against Azersu OJSC, the state-owned water supply and sewerage company, often associated with deeply rooted corruption.

In a bit of historic irony, powerful oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili has managed to inspire rare unity across Georgia’s cacophonous political scene twice in his life. His money and influence forged the broad-based consolidation of opposition forces that brought him to power in 2012, and now, 12 years and three electoral cycles later, a similar pattern of opposition convergence could send him packing.
