Russian Foreign Ministry is dissatisfied with Baku's refusal to recognize occupied Ukrainian territories as Russian
Baku/13.09.23/Turan: Russia has expressed a "diplomatic demarche" to Azerbaijan over the statement of the Republic's Foreign Ministry on the non-recognition of elections in the Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine.
According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, "such assessments cannot be accepted by us, these are unacceptable assessments, and they are not consistent with the allied level of relations between our countries. Therefore, a demarche was held in front of the Azerbaijani side through the diplomatic line. We have expressed everything about this," she said at a briefing.
"We proceed from the fact that Baku should treat the issues of the territorial integrity of our country with the same respect that our partners count on from our side when it comes to the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan," she said.
Earlier, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry in its Twitter account published a statement on September 9 "About fictitious "elections" in certain territories of Ukraine.
"Azerbaijan and Ukraine recognize and support each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Based on this, Azerbaijan declares that any elections on the territory of Ukraine can be legitimate if they are held in accordance with the constitution and legislation of this state.
This principled position of Azerbaijan is based on universally recognized norms and principles of international law regarding respect for the rights of states inherent in their sovereignty.
The recent "elections" on a part of the internationally recognized territories of Ukraine did not meet this criterion and therefore cannot have any legal force," the statement said. -02D-
