A message from Pashinian

New year has brought some corrections in the internal discussion in Armenia on who is to blame and what to do.

The calls of all institutions of society and the state to dismiss Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for the defeat in the Karabakh war, which rocked Armenia until December 31, on New Year's Eve gave way to calls for agreement, complicity and solidarity.

Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, President Armen Sarkissian, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharian addressed the people at the turning point of the inter-year period.

It is noteworthy that the speeches of the church hierarchy and politicians coincided in political orientation, emotional tone, balanced messages that they addressed to the people.

A good point in the messages is that Azerbaijan was not mentioned, there was not the epithet enemy, calls for revenge, although there were one-to-one calls for the fight to save Armenia.

“Our further path is very difficult and full of trials, deep wounds have been inflicted on us, but we have the experience and the will to recover, stand on our feet and win. Unity has no alternative,” the president said.

The interlinear messages are set for constructivism based on the prevailing realities, which may indicate a readiness to pursue a new national line inclined to compromise on Karabakh and build cooperation relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey in the New Year and for the future.

“But today there are realities, and we must look them in the eye, because this is the necessary precondition for managing the situation. The logic of chaos, panic, fear must be overcome as soon as possible; all the factors that contribute to the development of such realities must be overcome. The very first minutes of 2021 should be the starting point from which we begin our new national upsurge,” Pashinyan said.

If we take into account that the celebration of the New Year in Armenia is smoothly transformed into Christmas - January 6, then we can say, taking into account the influence of the Armenian Church on the public and state life of the country, the line on appeasement of both internal and external claims will be continued and consolidated.

“With this awareness, one should create a new day for the Motherland, relying on brotherly love, justice and obedience to the law,” said Garegin II.

Thus, the head of the church drew a line under the massive protests and invited the Armenian society to move into the legal field, which is very important on the eve of big negotiations on building new - peaceful relations with their regional neighbors.
