Ministry of Agriculture Reveals Urgent Problems of Development
The Ministry of Agriculture prepared a proposal for solving urgent problems of agricultural development, which were announced at the 27 January conference on the State Program of socio-economic development of regions.
Agriculture Minister Heydar Asadov described the priorities of the agricultural sector, including creation of the Seed Fund and stimulating re-seeding. According to experts, one of the reasons for the low yield of grain crops in Azerbaijan is using seeds of low reproduction.
The Ministry of Agriculture told Turan, there is potential for re-seeding of forage crops on 300 thousand hectares. In the first stage, one-third of this potential can be used. However, this requires the allocation of subsidies to farmers for fuels and motor oil, according to the ministry.
Today, thousands of peasants who became owners as a result of land reform in the mid-1990s are not engaged in agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture believes that against such owners "appropriate measures" should be taken. What specific measures they have in mind is not yet reported. -0-

The management of the Baku Metro often announces projects for new underground lines and stations, but official information never includes data on the cost of laying a kilometer of track or building specific metro stations. Journalists sometimes obtain details from unofficial sources, raising doubts about the reliability of such information. For instance, in 2021, an unofficial government source reported a cost of 60 million manats for planned construction of a single station on the Purple Line. This figure excluded finishing works, installation of communication lines, electronics, escalators, and elevators.

Azerbaijan's agricultural sector faces a critical moment as modest growth in grain production fails to offset a troubling decline in productivity. Data from the State Statistics Committee shows that total grain and legume production grew by 0.7% year-on-year, reaching 3.2 million tons by November 1, 2024. However, this growth is overshadowed by a sharp 6.2% drop in yield, highlighting structural inefficiencies in the sector.
