Open Skies Between Azerbaijan and United States
An agreement between Azerbaijan and the United States on the liberalization of air transport between the two countries was signed in Baku by the head of JSC Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Jahangir Asgarov and US Ambassador Robert Cekuta.
According to the official report, the agreement on the so-called Open Skies provides for the simplification of the process of organizing air travel and promoting the growth of commercial flights. Also, the state is obliged not to interfere in the commercial decisions of the airline routes and pricing in order to make the carriers competitive and provide more affordable and effective services in the field of passenger and cargo traffic.
Earlier, the US Federal Aviation Administration assigned Azerbaijan the highest level of aviation security categories "A", and then direct flights by AZAL opened from September 23, 2014 from Baku to New York and back twice a week. The flights are operated by Boeing-787-8 Dreamliners. --17D-
