Several historical objects of Roman date found during TANAP construction
Several historical objects and buildings have been found during construction of the trans Anadolu (TANAP) gas pipeline (operated by SOCAR) near Gelbashi district, Diklitash region near Ankara and the works have been suspended.
Sabah newspaper reported that the reason was discovery of a tunnel with four underground premises dating back to Roman empire and decorated with Christian symbols.
Specialists of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism have started research.
“Some historical artefacts have been found during the pipeline construction before, but the route has never been changed. As a rule, some problems are solved in in a different way. The change of the TANAP route is not on the agenda,” said a source from the consortium.
