After Returning to Turkey, Erdogan Demands End to Protests
After returning to Turkey after a tour of the countries of North Africa, Prime Minister Erdogan demanded an end to anti-government protests that gripped the country.
Thousands of supporters welcomed Erdogan at the airport in Istanbul, waving flags and chanting, "We will die for you, Erdogan".
According to the agency, to meet Erdogan's plane at the airport there were about 10,000 people. "I urge the immediate cessation of the demonstration, as they stopped short of democratic standards and became vandalism," said the Prime Minister, addressing the audience.
According to the BBC Turkish service, from the crowd of supporters of Erdogan there were heard appeals "crush Taksim."
Meanwhile, at the Taksim Square in Istanbul, many demonstrators rallied. This is the seventh night of protests in Turkey. "Tayyip, resign!" people are chanting in the square. Meanwhile the situation in the Taksim Square is quite peaceful, some protesters singing and dancing.
In Ankara Park Kugulu thousands gathered to drink beer and sing the national anthem.
According to observers, the next day the authorities will take steps to turn the tide in their favor. Their opponents are ready to make the same.
Earlier, representatives of the protesters had already submitted a list of their demands to the authorities, where there are points of refusal of destroying the park Gezi, punishment of police chiefs, release of prisoners, and others. -02D-
