Azerbaijan does not violate U.S. sanctions imposed against Russia - U.S. Ambassador
Baku/09.06.22/Turan: Azerbaijan does not violate U.S. sanctions imposed against Russia because of military aggression against Ukraine. U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Liezenberger said this on Thursday, answering Turan's questions about the risks for Azerbaijan from the sanctions imposed or possible violation of these sanctions, given the close economic and political relations between Baku and Moscow?
The sanctions imposed by the U.S. and other Western countries against Russia after its aggression against Ukraine are aimed at weakening Russia economically. "We understand that the countries of the region are very concerned about the possibility of the unintended impact of sanctions on them as well. We are maintaining a dialogue with the authorities in Baku, discussing what the consequences of the sanctions might be and what measures can be taken to address these concerns," the Ambassador said.
Asked if there had been any violation of sanctions by Baku, the Ambassador said: "We have not noticed any violation of sanctions. Azerbaijan is quite transparent in its economic policy."
Recall that the U.S. sanctions were also imposed against Iran, another neighbor of Azerbaijan, and "here all issues are also discussed and resolved if they arise," the diplomat said. -02B-
