European Commissioner Condemns Approval of Amendments to Laws on NGOs
The Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muzhnieks criticized the introduction of amendments to the law on NGOs.
These amendments entered into force after their approval by the President. Henceforth opportunities for foreign funding of civil society in Azerbaijan further tightened.
In this regard, Muzhnieks wrote in his micro blog on Twitter that the new legislation on grants from foreign donors has allowed the government more control of civil society and that these changes further deepen human rights problems in Azerbaijan.
Recall that according to the amendment to the financing of projects of civil society through grants, they must obtain permission of the executive power of Azerbaijan.
The authorities motivate the amendment with the necessity to ensure the transparency of NGOs. -16D-
