Legal Resource Centre will partially replace the arrested human rights defenders
A Legal Protection Center, acting in the roundtable format, unites 16 parties. Coordinator of the center is Classic Popular Front Party, said the chairman of the party Mirmahmud Miralioglu.
According to him, the need for the creation of such a structure came after the arrest in early August, the country's prominent human rights defenders. So, after the arrest of Intigam Aliyev and others a serious vacuum was in the human rights system. "These arrests have left without the protection not only us, now human rights defenders themselves need protection," said Miralioglu.
A general republican meeting with international structures of political parties, NGOs, media, experts and specialists will be held on September 17 at the office of the Democratic Party. They will discuss the situation with democracy and further action in the field of human rights protection. The Center will create Commission on the Karabakh conflict, socio-legal, property, religious issues. The center will operate under the slogan "no political prisoners in Azerbaijan." At the recent meeting the Centre appealed to the authorities with request to change the measure of restraint for the arrested for political reasons.
Miralioglu believes that the Committee for Protection of Human Rights Defenders, created with the National Council and the newly established Centre will not interfere with each other. On the contrary, there will be promotion, he said.
The Legal Defense Center was created by nine parties. After a while another seven parties decided to join. Currently, all the 16 parties in the Centre, have state registration. -05B04-
