Lukashenko appointed the CSTO Secretary General
Baku / 21.12.18 / Turan: On December 21, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a working meeting with Security Council State Secretary Stanislav Zasya, and announced that he had signed a draft decision on the appointment of Zasya as CSTO Secretary General (Collective Security Treaty Organization).
BelTA reported, that Zasya reported on his meetings with the heads of the CSTO member states, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Russia, who supported his candidacy for the position of secretary general of the organization.
Lukashenko also officially supported the appointment of Stanislav Zasya, having signed the corresponding draft decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
Lukashenko told about the role and importance of the CSTO Secretary General, not mentioning Armenia at all, which opposes Zasya"s candidacy and insists that the Secretary General should be the representative of Yerevan, instead of the dismissed Yuri Khachaturov.
Official Yerevan has not reacted to Lukashenko"s actions. It should be noted that decisions in the CSTO are taken by consensus and the issue cannot be resolved without the consent of Armenia.
Apparently, the topic of the CSTO Secretary General will be one of the central ones at the upcoming meeting of Putin and Pashinyan in Moscow next week. -02D-
