Musavat Party Сondemns Discussion of Recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh’s "Independence" in French Senate
Baku / 22.11.20 / Turan: Discussions in the French Senate of the issue of recognizing the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan as an independent state entity belonging to the Armenians are perceived in Azerbaijani society with serious concern.
This is stated in the statement of the Musavat party, one of the leading opposition forces in Azerbaijan.
"These discussions, contrary to international law, cause particular concern for the democratic community of Azerbaijan, which seeks to build a society based on the rule of law and has chosen European integration as its strategic policy," Musavat said in a statement.
The territory of Karabakh, occupied by the armed forces of Armenia for 30 years and historically and legally belonging to Azerbaijan, was liberated in accordance with 4 resolutions of the UN Security Council and other international legal documents.
“We declare that Azerbaijan, as a multinational, multi-confessional, multicultural state with a tolerant attitude towards other nations and religions and a highly cultured society, guarantees the safety of all peoples living in this region, including Armenians, and the protection of cultural and religious heritage,” the Musavat party said. .
The party believes that France, being one of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group responsible for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, should take an objective, neutral position.
A biased decision against Azerbaijan will not have any legal consequences.
On the other hand, the adoption of a recommendatory decision and any document in this direction will not only not lead to peace or improve relations in the region, but will also lead to a further increase in tension.
Such a decision will be another blow to peace in the region, exclude Armenia from long-term economic and regional projects, exacerbate contradictions and seriously impede the achievement of lasting peace.
"The most important thing is that any document adopted by the French Senate on the recognition of the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh will not lead to any legal consequences, but will have a serious impact on the cooling of relations between the states and peoples of Azerbaijan and France, our political, economic and cultural ties," reads the conclusion of the Musavat party’s statement. 06В-
