New Staff on Press Council Board
The sixth Congress of Journalists of Azerbaijan formed a new board of the Press Council. It includes 17 people, as well as eight of the print media, six from public, and three from new media.
Most of the elected print media members are previous board member, known for their loyalty to the authorities: Aflatun Amashev, Vugar Rahimzade, Umud Mirzoyev, Rashad Majid, Bakhtiyar Sadigov, Tapdig Abbas, and Aydin Guliyev. Rauf Arifoglu, chief editor "Yeni Musavat» newspaper was also elected to the Board.
From the public, the Press Council also includes well-known deputies supporting the authorities - MPs Agil Abbas, Javanshir Feyziyev, Musa Gasymly, the head of the journalists' union Mushvig Aleskerli, and Shamil Veliyev, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism at Baku State University.
From Internet portals, Vusala Mahirgizi, the president of the joint venture "APA Holding", Rasim Aliguliyev, Director of the Institute of ICT of the Academy of Sciences, and Azer Hasrat, an expert were elected to the Board.
It is noteworthy that Russian printed and on-line publications, despite their large audience representation, are not represented on the Board of the Press Council.
But the most amazing thing is that Elchin Shikhly, head of the Union of Journalists, was not included the Press Council. –06D-

Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Alim Bayel, expressed his condolences following the tragic crash of a passenger plane in Aktau. In a statement issued on behalf of the Kazakh Embassy in Azerbaijan, Bayel extended sympathies to the victims' families and wished a swift recovery to those injured, saying, "May their souls rest in paradise."
