On 26 october the EITI will make a decision on Azerbaijan
On October 25-26, and the 35th session of the International Steering Committee of the International Transparency Initiative in the mining industry (EITI)to be held in Astana will be discussed the implementation of Azerbaijan's commitments in the framework of the structure. In May last year Azerbaijan's status in the EITI was downgraded to a candidate country.
The coordinator of the Coalition of NGOs for transparency in the extractive industries Gubad Ibadoglu, a meeting participant, wrote on the Facebook that the steering committee will assess the implementation of correctional programs and will consider Azerbaijan's membership in EITI.
The program included the cessation of pressure on civil society, lifting the ban on leaving the country, unfreezing bank accounts, removal of restrictions on foreign funding of NGOs.
The meeting will be attended also by the official delegation of Azerbaijan headed by the Executive Director of the State Oil Fund Shahmar Movsumov.
The decision on Azerbaijan will be adopted on 26 October. -03B-
