Places for the election campaign in Sumgait are unsuitable
The revision of the list of places allowed by the authorities for presidential candidates to make rallies and meetings with voters shows that the president Ilham Aliyev will unlikely visit them, because there is not any place which had even been visited by him over the 10 years of his presidency. The vast majority of these sites are located away from the city center, hard for transport areas, and are in a state of neglect.
Turan correspondent visited the stadium "Builders" and the cinema " Nizami " in the city of Sumgait . Stadium has not been renovated since its construction in the 1970s . The stadium is a home to about 10 families displaced; no sport competitions re held there and the arena is in disrepair.
Cinema "Nizami" is also in disrepair for such events. The ventilation system is out of order, the lighting is weak, and the drainage has failed. Although, despite these conditions, the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan" has had two meetings with voters in favor of their candidate.
In the last few years State Flag Square, a park Heydar Aliyev were built in Sumgayit, municipal park and Stadium M. Huseynzadeh were refurbished, Paralympic Centre, the Olympic complex and other facilities were built. However, the authorities did not consider it necessary to create an opportunity to presidential candidates to meet voters in these places, relegating them to the abandoned places .
The Chief of Staff of the party "Musavat", Arif Hajili, told the media that the government "tried to hold mass actions in extremely bad places." -08B-
