Safar Abiyev Denies Reports for Citizenship of Czech Republic
The former Defense Minister Safar Abiyev has denied reports that he became a citizen of the Czech Republic. "Such claims are absolutely groundless," one of the ex-minister’s friends told Turan. "At the moment he is being treated abroad and soon he will come back," said the source.
The Czech Embassy in Azerbaijan did not acknowledge Abiyev’s receiving citizenship of this country either. "We have no information on Abiyev’s obtaining citizenship of the Czech Republic," said the representative of the embassy.
The press service of the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan, commenting on these reports, said that Safar Abiyev was dismissed from the Armed Forces in March 2014.
Information about Abiyev’s obtaining Czech citizenship appeared in social networks on Saturday, citing a Facebook user.
