The U.S. Ambassadors Fund Launches Restoration of Historic Hamam in Guba
Baku/27.03.18/Turan: The American Embassy was proud to work with the local Guba community to preserve the historic Gumbezli Hamam, an important piece of Azerbaijan"s history, reads a press release of the US Embassy.
The restoration of the hamam was made possible through the support of the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) and in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Ambassador Robert F. Cekuta and Mrs. Cekuta, as well as Mr. Abulfaz Garayev, Minister of Culture, and Guba ExCom Mr. Ziyaddin Aliyev attended the opening of the newly restored hamam, which dates to the late 18th or early 19th century and is an example of the earliest use of baked red brick masonry in Azerbaijan. The hamam will be open to the public and will be used as a tourist attraction as well as to house local handicrafts.
Since 2001, AFCP has supported the preservation of cultural sites, cultural objects, and traditional forms of cultural expression in more than 100 countries around the world, including the restoration of ancient and historic buildings, the assessment and conservation of rare manuscripts and museum collections, the preservation and protection of important archaeological sites, and the documentation of vanishing traditional craft techniques and indigenous languages. -02D-
