Qurban Allahverdiyev: "Aliyev"s regime will not break my brother"

"Soviet punitive system did not break my brother, and  Aliyev’s  regime will not be able to do it,"  said Qurban Allahverdiyev, brother of independent journalist Faramaz Novruzoglu, who was regularly published in the newspaper "Nota Bene" and "Millet", in his interview with  on-line TV channel (obyektiv.tv).

According to him, 4.5 years of prison regime for journalists and civil society, is an incredible time. It was the term  to which Novruzoglu  was sentenced  on August 22  by Nizami District Court of Baku,  and found the journalist guilty of inciting riots and illegal crossing of the state border.

"Taking into account the difficult family situation, it is not right to sentence to such a term; Faramaz  has great merits  in the national liberation movement in the 90s of the last century,"  said his brother.

By the way, Novruzoglu  was imprisoned  during Soviet Union  for  calls to riot. "For disobedience the regime, he was taken to Moscow's Lefortovo prison. In protest, the imperial system, he sewed up his mouth, swallowed spoons,  and other activities. The Soviet authorities, unable to cope,  released him," said G.Allahverdiev.

Novruzoglu was imprisoned  when Heydar Aliyev was in power, and  now Ilham Aliyev is in power. In 1997 he was jailed for "insulting the statue of Lenin," then he was imprisoned for articles and interviews in the media.

According to Gurban Allahverdiyev,  his brother is subjected to pressure  for incriminating materials such as "Fate of oil shipped to Italy" and "Where do pine-trees imported from Russia, go?" in  which he investigated corruption. --17D—
