Court of Appeal leaves Fuad Gahramanli in custody
Baku / 07.11.19 / Turan: The Baku Court of Appeal today rejected a complaint about the administrative arrest of activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Fuad Gahramanli for a period of 30 days on charges of not subordinating to the police.
At the trial, he stated that the hearing in the Nasimi District Court was not objective.
In particular, the court did not satisfy his request to watch the recordings from the security cameras at the place of detention, to send inquiries to mobile operators to determine if he really was, he spoke on a cell phone.
“All this is an indicator of political repression in the country, the persecution of PFPA activists. It also aims to intimidate people so that they do not participate in rallies. However, they (the authorities) are mistaken. Arrests cannot prevent the growth of discontent,” Gahramanli said.
He stated that he would appeal the arrest to the European Court of Human Rights.
Gahramanli was detained on October 31 and on the same day was arrested for 30 days under the Article 535.1 (not subordinate to the police) of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
According to the police, he loudly swore over the phone on the street, and when the police called him to order, he ignored their remarks. -16d-
