Despite the critical condition, B. Hajiyev refused to end the hunger strike
Baku/05.02.23/Turan: Human rights activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev has been on hunger strike for 28 days in Baku Detention Center No. 1. He protests against his arrest and demands the release of all political prisoners.
On February 5, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev called his family from the detention center.
The activist's brother, Vugar Hajiyev, told Turan that his health remains "severe and critical."
“His voice was very weak. Bakhtiyar said that yesterday for 5 hours he was thoroughly examined with the participation of Doctor of Medical Sciences Adil Geybulla.
Professor Geybulla pointed out the serious consequences of the hunger strike. I asked my brother to stop the hunger strike, as his health is deteriorating every day. He did not agree and said that he would starve until the end,” V. Hajiyev said.
Bakhtiyar Hajiyev is being held in the medical unit of the isolation ward.
“He wants to be transferred to a medical institution of the Prison Service. Because there is no quality medical care in the medical unit of the isolation ward, after six o'clock in the evening there are no doctors there at all. However, yesterday, after a medical examination, the doctors did not consider Bakhtiyar's hospitalization inappropriate," V. Hajiyev continued.
* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.
On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release. On December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent calls from the public and family members. However, on January 9, he resumed his hunger strike after the appeal court refused to release him and continues to this day.
On January 21, the court extended Hajiyev's arrest for another 1 month. -03B06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
